An example of what a RushTIX email looks like...

So here's a 2-4-1 guide to help you get the most out of the next 12 days of Fringe.

I asked some NZ Fringe goers what 2 HANDY TIPS were for ultimate Fringe fun, 4 SHOWS they're really looking forward to and 1 SHOW THEY'VE LOVED so far!

giphy-10

Isadora Lao
Theatre Student & All Round Cool Kid

2 HANDY TIPS...
1. Bring a drink in because you're gonna be laughing or gasping or panting... etc throughout and also, hydration.
2. Get the middle front seat because the last thing you want is a head blocking the gag.

4 SHOWS YOU'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO...

The Internet is Where Innocence Goes to Die and You Can Come Too

Attention Seeker

Allergic to Love

1 SHOW YOU'VE LOVED...

may-contain-sex-scenes

damn it, i love a few shows... but i'll choose May Contain Sex Scenes.

David Correos
Fringe Artist (Dank Comedy Presents: Chilli/Blindfold/Rat Traps), 2016 Billy T Winner & The Filipino Comedian That Isn't James Roque

2 HANDY TIPS...
1. Go to something different and interesting looking. If it's great you can tell your friends. If it was bad, you'll have a talking point for heaps of conversations with friends.
2. If you enjoyed the show and bump into the performer at the end, be sure to tell them you liked it. Performers love that shit. You might make someone's whole night with one little compliment

4 SHOWS YOU'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING...

Raw Comedy Quest

Onstage Dating (this show has actually finished now, and it sold out! Very gutted if you missed it... It was amazing!)

Open Mike Night (again the season has ended, but it's what David wishes he saw!)

The Hangry Americans

1 SHOW YOU'VE LOVED SO FAR... David isn't actually here in Wellington yet...

I saw Fabricate in Auckland and it was great. A really out there dance show that uses a lot of string.

Gerard Harris
Fringe Artist (Attention Seeker and also an extra koha show Gerard Harris' New Show: A Work In Regress)

2 HANDY TIPS...
1. If the room is looking a little empty, sit at the front. Performers need people and your presence at the front will inevitably make the show better. The more you give, the more you get, and if you really feeling like helping out, tell the other people sitting spread out across the room to come and bunch up together.
2. When you are pretty certain you're going to see a good show, nag, drag, pressgang, cajole, bully or blackmail a friend who's never been to theatre but loves tv and movies to come with you. You can even offer to give them their money back if they don't like it (though if that happens, please don't, because fuck'em). Make them understand how utterly weird, unnatural and wrong it is to think entertainment is something that only belongs on a screen. Shame them into it if that's what it takes.

4 SHOWS YOU'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO...

Rapanui - The Song of Stone

Fringe Artist, Fringe Bike Extraordinaire, Bron Batten Fan Club President

2 HANDY TIPS...
1. Take cash for Koha shows! New this year is a $5 booking fee to reserve a space at the Koha show but please, give more cash after the show … the show should cost more than $5!!!  If you can’t afford to give more $$, give another kind of koha! Last year someone gave me fancy peanut butter at my koha show, it was awesome!

2. Plan your footwear, bathrooms, water. Fringe shows can be in quite unpredictable venues, including the promenade show I’m currently in…. So these are things I learnt the hard way...
Footwear - Wear sneakers! You may have to walk around the city as part of the show,  you might have to walk to find a bathroom, you might need to rush to get to your next Fringe show at another venue across town!
Bathroom - There may not be a bathroom where you’re going. Try going before hand.
Water - There may not be water where you’re going. BYO.

1 SHOW YOU'VE LOVED...

onstage-dating-bron

Onstage Dating
Bron Batten is the reigning queen of my heart with two awesome, very original and exciting shows in back-to-back NZ Fringe festivals (Sweet Child of Mine and Onstage Dating). She plays with honesty, human interaction and awkwardness in an incredibly clever and funny way. In my eyes she can do no wrong! Onstage Dating relied completely on the participation of a few audience members, and Bron is so skilled and likeable that you can’t not want her to succeed with her experimental show. She goes out on stage as a solo artist (scary), not being able to guarantee what may happen (terriffffying) and as a result makes fun, fresh and exciting theatre! No two shows are the same. I mean, her poster is her posing for a portrait photograph, in velvet, holding a rooster... what an absolute legend! I hope hope hope she comes back to Wellington, I can’t wait to see what she does next!

attention-seeker

Attention Seeker by Gerard Harris. Had me on the edge of my seat and right along with him for the whole show. A master storyteller, brilliant. Last chance to see it tonight so get along!

Hilaire Carmody
Humorous Arts Trust (A HATter!)

2 HANDY TIPS...
1. Don't be afraid to go solo to a show. You might see something extremely awesome that gives you gloating rights afterwards. That time that show got pizza delivered? Yeah you were there and it was amazing.

2. If you had a good time at a show, make sure you do a shout out on social media. Word of mouth is still king.
(Following both these tips will cement your position in your friends circle as the Fringe show guru. People will seek your advice when choosing shows or happily join you at the theatre. Bingo! No more worrying about going to shows by yourself)

4 SHOWS YOU'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO...

Fouvale Imperium

The Madison Hegarty Tribute Show

1 SHOW YOU'VE LOVED SO FAR...

2 HANDY TIPS...
1. If there’s a bar, support the bar. Nice to have a drink in yo hand!
2. There’s so much out there, try mixing up the type of show you go see – standup, improv, storytelling, etc…
